Arthur OsverAmerican painter, 1912–2006
Born in Chicago, Osver studied at Northwestern University and the Art Institute before moving to New York, where he taught at the Brooklyn Museum Art School, Columbia University, and Cooper Union. In 1960 he relocated to become a professor at Washington University in St. Louis, where he remained on the faculty for over 20 years. Osver's colorful abstract paintings and stylized depictions of the world around him can be found in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the St. Louis Art Museum, which hosted a retrospective of his work in 2000.
