BiographyAbstract painter Giorgio Cavallon was born in Sorio, near Venice, Italy, and immigrated to the United States in 1920. He studied at the National Academy of Design in New York City in 1927 and 1928. In 1934, he attended evening classes with Hans Hofmann in Provincetown, Massachusetts. In 1936 he joined with other like-minded painters to form the American Abstract Artists group, a key force in promoting abstract painting in the United States. By the late forties he was associating with the abstract expressionist artists of the New York School. He exhibited with them starting in 1951.Person TypeIndividual
