Jane Freilicher

Jane Freilicher received her undergraduate degree from Brooklyn College in 1947 and a Master's degree in art education from Columbia University in 1948. She continued her study under Hans Hofmann at his schools in Manhattan and Provincetown, Massachusetts. Considered a second generation abstract expressionist painter, Freilicher remained committed to realistic imagery conveyed with gestural brushwork. Her first solo exhibition was held at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery in 1952, and she continued to exhibit there throughout the remainder of her career.
