Chaim Gross

American sculptor and printmaker, 1904–1991
BiographyAmerican sculptor Chaim Gross was born in the Austro-Hungarian town of Kolomyia and began his art studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna shortly before moving to the United States in 1921. He continued his studies with Elie Nadelman at the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design and with Robert Laurent at the Art Students League in New York. Beginning in the 1930s, Gross exhibited his sculptures and graphic art widely in New York and throughout the United States. He was professor of printmaking and sculpture at the Educational Alliance and the New School for Social Research in New York.
