Label TextTo produce this image, Edgerton used his "multiflash." The strobe fired 30 times per second, creating multiple exposures within a single frame. The intricate and erratic trajectory of a jumping rope in motion is clearly captured in this photograph. With obvious enjoyment, the young woman skips forward in Edgerton's laboratory at MIT, nicknamed "Strobe Alley."
