Label TextFlying from the darkness into the light, a pigeon beats its wings through three movements of its flight cycle. Edgerton's process enables scientists to study in single-image format split-second, natural phenomena that were previously invisible to the naked eye. This photograph records three exposures in one frame. Each exposure lasted 1/100,000 of a second.
