Label TextGeorge Howard was an amateur painter closely aligned with members of the Pre-Raphaelite circle including William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones. His landscapes were significantly influenced by the Italian “Etruscans” a group of painters under the guidance of Giovanni Costa. This painting depicts a scene in Algiers, then a French colony particularly popular among British tourists.
