Label TextOf the original Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Millais was by far the most prolific printmaker. The Young Mother appeared as one of the last plates in a publication for the Art Union of London from 1857. The scene, set in the Scottish Highlands, depicts a young mother attending her baby. The subject had great personal resonance for Millais, whose first son by his new wife, Euphemia Ruskin, had been born only a few months previously.
