Label TextEdgar Everett Martin's comic strip Boots and Her Buddies ran from 1924 to 1969. A cartoonist for the Newspaper Enterprise Association, Martin created Boots as a young woman who showed off the latest in fashion and hair styles. Initially depicted as a college student, Boots eventually married, and Martin devised various plots accordingly. In a life imitating art scenario, when Martin had the character Boots judge beauty contests, the cartoonist received similar invitations.
