Morris Brown II

American photographer, born 1946
BiographyMorris Thomas Brown II was born in West Chester, PA on August 17, 1946. He graduated high school in 1964 and attended Cheyney University of Pennsylvania where he studied graphics and served as campus photographer and co-editor of the Cheyney Journal. Brown was drawn to Wilmington, Delaware in 1970 by artists James E. Newton and Simmie Knox to join a burgeoning artist community. He worked with Wilmington-based advertising and photography agencies—for major corporate clients including DuPont, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, and EDiS Company—and taught at Christina Cultural Arts Center. His photography has been published in Delaware Today; regional Black newspapers like The Delaware Valley Star, The People’s Pulse, and Drumbeat; and national magazines like Black Enterprise, Jet Magazine, and Ebony. In 1976, Brown served as photographer and educator in the CETA-funded Bicentennial Metroscope program in Delaware. Wilmington Mayor James H. Sills, Jr. (in office 1993–2001) selected Brown to photograph the City's events such as the annual Clifford Brown Jazz Festival and other governmental and community activities. Brown's photographs have been exhibited throughout the Mid-Atlantic and are included in the collection of the Delaware Art Museum.
