Dorothy Merle Gillespie

American painter and sculptor, 1920–2012
BiographyDorothy Gillespie is best known for her large, colorful, metallic sculptures installed in corporate and public institutions throughout the United States. Gillespie studied at Maryland Institute College of Art and the Art Students League of New York, and in 2001 she was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Women's Caucus for Art. Gillespie's work can be found in the collections of the Delaware Art Museum, Brooklyn Museum of Art, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Large-scale installations are located in airports and corporate centers throughout the United States, and in 2003, a 185-piece outdoor work was installed at New York's Rockefeller Center.
