Don Freeman

American artist, 1908–1978
BiographyA favorite student of John Sloan at the Art Students League, Freeman took many of his subjects from scenes glimpsed on the streets of New York City. He frequently depicted Broadway theaters, politicians, and the circus with humorous insight and a lively style. Freeman was also the creator of the beloved children's books starring Corduroy, the teddy bear who lost his button.
