American painter, illustrator, and etcher, 1882–1956
BiographyBorn in Massachusetts, Hornby studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Eric Pape School of Illustration, and at the Academie Julian, the Sorbonne, and the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere (with French illustrator Theophile Steinlen) in Paris. He worked as a war correspondent during World War I. Best known as a printmaker, he exhibited regularly in Boston and nationally.
