Edna Wright Andrade

BiographyEdna Andrade is considered to be an early figure in the Op Art movement. Andrade studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and worked under Eeron Saarinen during World War II in the Office of Strategic Services. She spent her professional career in Philadelphia and taught at the Philadelphia College of Art. Andrade's vibrant, abstract paintings and drawings were the subject of solo exhibitions at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1993 and at the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania in 2004. Her work is included in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and the Baltimore Art Museum, among many others.Person TypeIndividual
