American painter, printmaker, and sculptor, 1876–1952
BiographyAmerican artist and longtime instructor at the Art Students League of New York, Miller painted scenes of contemporary life in a manner influenced by the Old Masters. Miller was born in Oneida and studied at the League with Kenyon Cox and Henry Siddons Mowbray and at the New York School of Art with William Merritt Chase. He taught at the League from 1911 through 1951; Isabel Bishop, Reginald Marsh, Rockwell Kent, and George Tooker are among the students he influenced strongly.
