Alonzo Earl Foringer (1878-1948) was born in Kaylor PA. He studied with Horatio S. Stevenson in Pittsburgh, and Henry Siddons Mowbray and Edwin Howaldn Blashfirld in New York. He became known as a poster artist, muralist, magazine illustrator (for Scribner's and others), and currency designer for US, Canadian, and European banks. His World War One-era Red Cross poster The Greatest Mother in the World, and its successor Still The Greatest Mother in the World were his most famous posters. He was an assistant to Edwin Blashfield in mural production for the Wisconsin State Capitol. In 1911, Foringer and his associate R. D. Arderente won a competition to paint 11 murals for the Council Chambers of the Yonkers (NY) City Hall. In 2006, the city of Yonkers undertook restoration of the murals, which depict the city's history.
Foringer lived in Saddle River NJ from 1922 to his death in 1948.
