Susanne Yardley Mason Thompson

American artist, 1927–2012
BiographySusanne Thompson resided in Avondale before moving to Long Island in the 1970s and finally settling in Tortola in 1993 with her second husband, Ed Morgan. She studied at the Art Students' League in New York and later with painter-colorist, William von Schlegell. Her work was exhibited in Philadelphia, in Kennett Square, at the Main Line Gallery, at the Fontana Gallery, and at the Delaware Art Museum and has received prizes and honors from the Delaware Art Museum. Thompson is a member of a family of artists—her maternal grandfather was the founder of Willets Beleek and Pottery in Trenton, her grandfather was the painter John Mason of Philadelphia and New York, and her aunt is artist Virginia Mason Gifford of Philadelphia. Her mother and father, Margaret Willets Mason and John Mason, are alumni of Swarthmore College.
