Michael Taylor

American glassmaker, sculptor, and teacher, born 1944
BiographyMichael Taylor is known for his work in glass and ceramics. After attending Middle Tennessee University, Taylor won a scholarship to the Penland School of Crafts, where he studied glass art under Fritz Dreisbach. Taylor earned an MFA in sculpture from East Tennessee State University and has taught at Tusculum College, Vanderbilt University, the College of Idaho, and others. He is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in 1984 and is in the collections of the High Museum of Art, the Renwick Gallery, and the Corning Museum of Glass. Taylor's work is influenced by the non-representational aesthetic of the Russian Constructivist movement, using a deliberately skewed sense of balance to give his work a lively, spontaneous quality.
