Sylvia Plimack Mangold

American painter, born 1938
BiographySylvia Plimack Mangold was born in New York City in 1938, studied at Cooper Union, and received her bachelor of fine arts degree from Yale University in 1961. The artist began exhibiting her representational paintings in the late 1960s in New York, showing images of floos, walls, and corners. In the early 1970s, she incorporated trompe l'oeil elements into her work and in the 1980s, began to explore the natural landscape. She received a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in 1974, and her work is included in major museum collections throughout the United States.
