Herman Rose

American painter and printmaker, 1909–2007
BiographyHerman Rose was the professional pseudonym of Herman Rappaport. Born in Brooklyn, Rose studied at the National Academy of Design in the 1920s and worked for the mural division of the W.P.A. in the late 1930s. Starting in 1946, Rose exhibited widely in New York and nationally. He worked as an art teacher and professor at several colleges before settling into a position at the New School, where he taught from 1963 until his retirement in 1990.
