BiographyKen Graves received both his undergraduate and master's degrees in fine arts from San Francisco Art Institute. He moved to the east coast and taught photography at Pennsylvania State University from 1977 until 2009. Beginning in the mid-1980s, Graves switched from traditional documentary photography, focusing instead on constructing photo-based collage that reference Surrealism and Victorian paper collages. The artist received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2001, and his work is in the public collections of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, and the George Eastman House, among others.
