Ethel Lucile Swantees

American artist, 1896–1981
BiographyBorn in Madison, Wisconsin, Swantees studied at the Albright Art Gallery School in Buffalo and at the New York School of Applied Design for Women, where she won multiple prizes in 1920-22. She also studied with John Sloan at the Art Students League. Swantees exhibited in Brooklyn and Manhattan and became an art teacher in Connecticut. Primarily a landscape painter, she continued making art into her 80s.
