Label TextThis vase illustrates the importance of Persian ornament in Arts and Crafts design, as well as hinting of new features characteristic of Art Nouveau, a style just appearing in Europe. This was in part due to the arrival of Herbert McNair at the nearby Liverpool University School of Architecture and Applied Art. McNair was a close associate of the Scottish designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and the two shared an interest in the latest continental designs.
