Label TextThese two tiles depict the awakening castle after 100 years of sleep, caused by an evil spell in the fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty. The tiles formed part of a series detailing the story, commissioned for the home of artist Myles Birket Foster. It was an important project for the young decorative arts firm to which many of the Pre-Raphaelites contributed. They may have been painted by Lucy Faulkner, sister to Charles Faulkner, a partner in the Firm.
