Label TextThe octagonal building in the foreground, built as a Quaker schoolhouse, was later taken over by Mother Archie, a spiritual leader of the Chadds Ford African-American community. Abandoned in 1945, the buildings fell into disrepair. Before they were torn down in 1953, Wyeth tried without success to buy them.
