Label TextAfter the death of Frederick Sandys his large family often struggled financially. Winifred, his eldest daughter, offered several of her miniatures to Samuel Bancroft including this portrait of the author, George Meredith. Included in the offering were seven letters from the author to her father. Winifred explained, “I have often heard that Meredith discovered popularity more or less in America.”
