Label TextAlthough not an original member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Frederick Sandys shared the group’s predilection for red-haired women. The model for May Margaret may be either Sandys’ common law wife, Mary, or her sister, Millie. While many of the models whose faces look out from Pre-Raphaelite paintings are unnamed, the “type” of beauty they share is unmistakable.
