Label TextThis vase shows the importance of Japanese design during the Aesthetic period. The Japanese Court at the 1862 International Exhibition in London, followed by a Pavilion at the Exposition Universelle (or World’s Fair) of 1867 held in Paris, set off a craze for Japanese art. Dante Gabriel Rossetti and James McNeil Whistler were both ardent collectors.
