Label TextR. W. Martin and Brothers Pottery was a small art pottery business run by the brothers Wallace, Walter, and Edwin Martin. Although the early output of the pottery was more utilitarian in nature, by the 1870s the production became less symmetrical and more natural, influenced by both Renaissance and oriental motifs. It was at this time that Wallace began creating these jars in the form of fowl, often humorously referred to as “Wally birds.”William Wallace Denslow
