Label TextThis diminutive vase highlights the eclectic nature of design sources during the Aesthetic Period. The imagery is
drawn from heraldry, specifically the “lion passant” – a lion
parading in profile. Gordon Forsyth repeated this theme in
many of his designs for the Pilkington Tile and Pottery
Company. Although a commercial enterprise, Pilkington did
hire individual artists like Forsyth and include their
“marks” or signatures on the bottom of each pot.
