Label TextWilliam Morris’ call for the creation of hand crafted decorative arts inspired the “Art Pottery” movement in the ceramics industry. Commercial manufacturers, such as Doulton and Company, set up new facilities in which artists were hired to design and decorate individual pieces. Simultaneously, government sponsored design schools were founded. The combination of opportunities for training and employment opened up new avenues for women in the workforce. This vase was decorated by two women who took advantage of these new developments.
