British artist, 1851–1916
BiographyHannah B. Barlow was the first female artist to be employed by Doulton’s in the Lambeth Pottery. She trained at the Lambeth School of Art from 1868-1871. She worked briefly for Minton’s before being hired full time at Doulton from 1871 until 1913. She carried on with a childhood passion for drawing animals and many of her pots feature naturalistically rendered creatures from farm and forest. She worked primarily in sgraffito, drawing or incising designs on the wet clay.
