Label TextIn response to the Arts and Crafts Movement, during the 1870s several leading pottery manufacturers started to produce “art” pottery along with their commercial wares. Doulton set up separate facilities for wares made entirely by hand and hired artists to decorate them. Mark Marshall was a leading decorator. This pot has been deeply incised with a v-shaped bezel tool in a technique that is called sgraffito.
