Label TextAlthough the Pre-Raphaelite painter Frederick Sandys was dead by the time Samuel Bancroft appeared on the scene, he sought out and befriended Sandys’ daughter, Winifred, a talented miniature painter. He commissioned her to paint several works for his collection, including this portrait. The correspondence between Bancroft and Sandys, detailing progress on this work, can be found in the Museum’s archives.
