Label TextThis sketch seems to depict a battlefield nurse leading a soldier blinded by a mustard gas attack. The artist depicted both a gas attack and Red Cross nurses in battlefield pictures reproduced in Scribner's Monthly.

An illustration titled Red Cross Workers is captioned: "The heroism of the Red Cross nurses has been unsurpassed. During the bombing of hospitals they have refused to leave their posts, but have remained to carry the wounded out of the wreckage to places of safety."
