Label TextAt the request of Emily Perkins Bissell, a Wilmington resident involved with the Red Cross, Howard Pyle designed the organization's Christmas stamp for 1908. The stamps were not for the postal service; they cost a penny and when placed on letters of gifts signified support for the Red Cross' campaign against tuberculosis. Several million copies of the stamp were sold.
