Label TextThomas Rooke worked first for William Morris before becoming studio assistant to Edward Burne-Jones in his later years. He was also a painter in his own right. This view of Chartres Cathedral was one of over 30 which he painted on regular trips to France between 1894 and 1920. Rooke was particularly influenced by the architectural drawings of John Ruskin.
