Label TextThis sweet pastel showing young girls gliding under a maypole served as a cover for the women’s magazine The Delineator. The illustration was created during Beard’s time as a student at Howard Pyle’s school of illustration in Wilmington. Born into an artistic family, Beard had already built a successful career as a book and magazine illustrator when she attended Pyle’s school from 1906 to 1910.
