Label TextGregory trained early in his career with Hubert von Herkomer in his native Southampton. He is best known for his illustration work for The Graphic, a highly influential weekly magazine. This image may document the Crimean War (1853-1856), also known as “The Eastern War.” The action is set in a primitive field hospital where a wounded soldier is held down by comrades while a doctor makes a diagnosis.
