BiographyEdward John Gregory (1850-1909). British painter. Studied with Hubert von Herkomer early in his life in his native city of Southampton. Moved to London in 1869 where he studied briefly at the Royal Academy. Was employed on the decoration of the Victoria and Albert Museum. In 1871 he began illustrating for “The Graphic,” creating the work for which he is, perhaps, best known. He exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolors and was elected a member in 1877. Was elected to the Royal Academy in 1883, after the completion of ”Boulter’s Lock” (Lady Lever Art Gallery).
