Label TextThe nascent Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood was supported by John Ruskin, a leading art critic, who encouraged them to turn away from current artistic trends and instead to, “go to Nature.” William Michael Rossetti described this painting as, “full of real pre Raphaelitism” when it was exhibited at the 1856 exhibition of the Royal Academy.
