Label TextThe women's magazine Modern Priscilla expanded from its initial concentration on needlework to other aspects of domestic life, as well as fiction and current events. Readers would have recognized the title as a reference to Priscilla Mullins (1602-1685), the accomplished spinner celebrated in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's popular poem "The Courtship of Miles Standish." The vibrant colors and the girl's animated expression created an eye-catching design for newsstand shoppers.
