Label TextWyeth shares the shock of discovering, in a tree, the rope and chains that the farmer Karl Kuerner and his son used to bleed butchered pigs. With a drawing pencil, Wyeth executes the images and captures the brutality that necessarily lurks amidst the serenity of nature. This sketch is nearly identical to another pencil sketch done in preparation for "Brown Swiss" (1957, private collection).
