Label TextIn the first volume of Modern Painters (1843), John Ruskin advised the “artists of England” to “go to nature…rejecting nothing, selecting nothing, and scorning nothing.” Although not an original member of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Crane shared many of their views. This closely observed and delicately rendered view of the Bishop’s Palace for Wells Cathedral in Somerset, England, embraces the concept of veracity promoted by Ruskin.
