Frédéric Florian

French artist, 1858 - 1926
BiographyBorn in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, Florian was one of the top wood-engravers in Paris in the 1890s, producing plates for major illustrated publications and engraving for the Bank of France. According to an article in Munsey’s Magazine (June 1910), after losing use of his right hand in the early 20th century, he supported himself with sales of autographed proofs of earlier engravings, while he taught himself to work with his left hand.
