Albert Rosenthal

American painter, lithographer, etcher, 1863–1939
BiographySon of the Polish immigrant printmaker Max Rosenthal, Albert was born in Philadelphia and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. He traveled to Paris where he studied at the Académie Julian and at the École des Beaux Arts with Gérôme. He was a painter and a printmaker known for his portraits of famous men, including the Supreme Court Justices. He was also a collector of American drawings, which he donated to the Free Library of Philadelphia in 1927.
