American artist, 1900–1968
BiographyBorn in South Dakota, Levon West attended the University of Minnesota before heading east to study with Joseph Pennell at the Art Students League in New York. He traveled through Europe in the late 1920s, returning to the United States in 1930. His etchings were often related to his travels. He produced series of etchings based on time in Venice, the Hudson Bay, Colorado, and Bermuda. He also worked as a photographer and took assignments on western subjects for The Saturday Evening Post and other popular magazines.
