American painter, etcher, and lithographer, 1898–1942
BiographyThe modern painter Willard Nash was born in Philadelphia and educated in Detroit. By the time he was a teenager, he was a successful commercial artist in Detroit. He embraced modern artistic styles early, and his pictures show the influence of Paul Cézanne, the Fauves, and the American modernist Andrew Dasburg. Nash worked in Santa Fe, New Mexico from 1922 to 1933, and then moved to California.
