Richard Langtry Partington
American painter, 1868–1929
BiographyA prolific portrait painter in California, Richard Langtry Partington was born in England and taught (alongside his sister Gertrude) by his father John Herbert Evelyn Partington (1843–1899). The Partington family relocated to the United States, settling in Oakland, California, in 1889. Richard and his father founded the Partington Art School in San Francisco, and Richard also worked as a newspaper sketch artist. Richard exhibited his paintings nationally and traveled across the country for portrait commissions. He was an active member of the San Francisco art scene.
