BiographyEugenia Eckford Rhoads was an artist and educator based in Wilmington, Delaware. She earned a B.A. degree at the Mississippi State College for Women and a M.A. from Teachers College at Columbia University. She taught at North Carolina College for Women and Maryland Normal School before coming to Wilmington to work at Tower Hill School. In 1932, she spent a summer studying painting in Fontainebleau, France, and traveling through Europe. After her marriage to Phillip G. Rhoads, she stopped teaching and became involved with local arts organizations including the Wilmington Society of the Fine Arts (predecessor to the Museum), the Studio Group, and the Rehoboth Art League. From 1969 to 1977 she was a board member for the Delaware State Arts Council.
